Tonico Tinoco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wilson Amorim read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 3rd minute of play. Bruno Bastos kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. A hard shot 8 in the game by Román Riquelme from a close distance when the talented Wilson Amorim managed to make a qualified save. Portugal's players were relieved. The attack was good, but when Román Riquelme in the 8th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. When the match had gone on for 15 minutes, Tonico Tinoco put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Wilson Amorim. 26 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eriberto Miranda. After having played for 28 minutes, Daniel Pimentel managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Portugal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Pimentel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felipe Barreto in the 32nd minute of play forced Inter Miami CF's goalkeeper Rigoberto Horado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Inter Miami CF defense, Viriato Moura kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rigoberto Horado. The Inter Miami CF fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rigoberto Horado should have stopped the shot. Inter Miami CF's Rigoberto Horado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Viriato Moura in the 45th minute of play. 46 minutes into the match, Tonico Tinoco had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Wilson Amorim. Portugal's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tonico Tinoco was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bartolomeu Dias in the 90th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rigoberto Horado prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Inter Miami CF's Rigoberto Horado proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 96th minute of the match, managed to save Inter Miami CF from getting a goal against them. Felipinho Amorim sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Portugal's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
