This resulted in a 2-0 score and a disappointed Keld Paulsen as he didn't even see the shot coming. After having played for 39 minutes, Chris Nygaard managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Denmark's supporters crossed their fingers, but Chris Nygaard was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gilbert Fleur kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. In the 43rd minute Chris Nygaard shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dean Verbruggen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Chris Nygaard made a kick off. Bertram Svenningsen struck a weak shot in the 51st minute. Dean Verbruggen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Denmark. Dean Verbruggen made a fantastic save in the 57th minute, when Chris Nygaard sent off a good shot on target. Denmark's Keld Paulsen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gilbert Fleur in the 59th minute of play. Denmark's Chris Nygaard was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 60th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Keld Paulsen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maarten Colen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 69thth minute of the game Chris Nygaard who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but MVV Maastricht's Dean Verbruggen was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Keld Paulsen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maarten Colen in the 72nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, MVV Maastricht's Alfred Oss got a free kick in the 74th minute. In the 75thth minute of the game Chris Nygaard who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but MVV Maastricht's Dean Verbruggen was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Chris Nygaard in the 77th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dean Verbruggen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Denmark's Chris Nygaard in the 80th minute got a chance for a shot 80th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye MVV Maastricht's goalie prevented a goal. After 80 played minutes Denmark got a freekick which was hit by Bertram Svenningsen. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Chris Nygaard managed to get in a good position for a shot. Denmark's supporters rose to their feet, but Chris Nygaard was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dean Verbruggen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 92 minutes into the game, Bjarne Kirkegaard was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Denmark's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave MVV Maastricht the free kick.
