In the 13th minute Karol Czempa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tommy Kahn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 16 minutes of play, Progresul Pitesti's Vasile Blănaru made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Tommy Kahn was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Chris Mergenthaler fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Germany's protests and gave Chris Mergenthaler a yellow card for diving instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Florin Logofătu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Progresul Pitesti's supporters rose to their feet, but Florin Logofătu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tommy Kahn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 25 minutes, Albin Holweck mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Germany and the Progresul Pitesti players grew even worse after the yellow card. Progresul Pitesti's Florin Logofătu shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 42nd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Tommy Kahn but with some difficulty.

Tommy Kahn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vasile Blănaru, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Chorache Tofiño fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tommy Kahn having to interfere. Frank Sachs could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Martin Tudor made a huge save. 56 minutes into the game, Liviu Cezar cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-0. Tommy Kahn was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 62 minutes of play, Progresul Pitesti's Chorache Tofiño made it 6-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. In the 85th minute the ball was on its way in behind Progresul Pitesti's goalkeeper Martin Tudor, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Frank Sachs blasted a shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Martin Tudor having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in Germany's zone, Liviu Cezar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tommy Kahn came out of the goal and Liviu Cezar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 96 minutes into the match, Progresul Pitesti's goal looked a bit too open when Frank Sachs came free, but Martin Tudor reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Progresul Pitesti fully deserved thier win.
