Despite this Navarro Montoya quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Börje Forsberg who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 15thth minute tested the skills of Flavio Vittori when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Italy's Flavio Vittori played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luka Mata in the 17th minute of play. 19 minutes into the game, Siricio Liotta cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Navarro Montoya was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 25 minutes into the match, Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Luka Mata came free, but Flavio Vittori reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jastreb's Navarro Montoya played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Siricio Liotta in the 26th minute of play. Navarro Montoya was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 47 minutes into the match, Italy's Zaccheo Andolina sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Navarro Montoya narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Navarro Montoya showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sigfrido Auletta, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. After the first half Italy were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The Jastreb players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
