Guido Vissenaeken started the match with the kick off. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 2nd minute of the game. One of Brugge United:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Spain:s goal. Brugge United's Vítor Baia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adria Bielsa in the 8th minute of play. Gabriel Ascaso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Guido Vissenaeken, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vítor Baia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adria Bielsa in the 14th minute of play. Gabriel Ascaso made a fantastic save in the 15th minute, when Laurențiu Roşculeţ sent off a good shot on target. Gabriel Ascaso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jaspar Van Den Broeck in the 17th minute of the match. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Spain's goalkeeper Gabriel Ascaso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Brugge United were awarded a corner in the 28th minute after Spain's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Jaspar Van Den Broeck took the corner. Santiago Sartori tried in the game's 28th match minute to clear up in front of his own goal but it went so bad that he put the ball into the goal to the left of an unhappy Gabriel Ascaso.
