In the 22nd minute Edward Vanderstraeten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pepe Santoro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pepe Santoro prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Edward Vanderstraeten's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pepe Santoro was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Independiente's Arsenio Rito got a free kick in the 86th minute. Siebe Michiels's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Pepe Santoro firmly grabbed it by the left post. After 89 minutes Independiente's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Edward Vanderstraeten who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Edward Vanderstraeten almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Independiente's Pepe Santoro did a great save. Edward Vanderstraeten fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pepe Santoro having to interfere. For all the effort they put into the match, the Belgium players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Independiente.
