Cláudio Taffarel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ersan Demiray to strike the kick off in the second half. Friedrich Nietzsche received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Wilson Amorim tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 83 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Friedrich Nietzsche came free, but Wilson Amorim reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 84 minutes into the match, Meriç Özsen notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Portugal's Wilson Amorim. Wilson Amorim was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
