In the 46th minute, Kees Mooiweer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half Netherlands were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The crowd rose to their feet as Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Kamal Pahlevi. That made the score 0-2 after 51 minutes of play. In the 56th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kamal Pahlevi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Gijsbert ter Kruimer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match was over Netherlands could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Tirant lo Blanch throughout the match.
