Benoit Ritieni could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 8th minute of the match, but Henrich Slany made a huge save. 8 minutes into the match, Slovakia's goalkeeper Henrich Slany had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benoit Ritieni. A hard shot 12 in the game by Benoit Ritieni from a close distance when the talented Henrich Slany managed to make a qualified save. Slovakia's players were relieved. Through an outstanding action, after 14 minutes, Henrich Slany successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. FC Lugano's Godo Gøl played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oliver Holub in the 18th minute of play. Henrich Slany made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Benoit Ritieni sent off a good shot on target. In the 21st minute, Metod Mlynar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alexander Testa in the 22nd minute of play forced Slovakia's goalkeeper Henrich Slany to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nereo Precioso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Henrich Slany having to interfere. Henrich Slany took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nereo Precioso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Henrich Slany made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Benoit Ritieni sent off a good shot on target. A sloppy throw-in by Alexander Testa in the 38th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Slovakia's Zigmund Maliar. In the 47th minute, Stefan Havel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Benoit Ritieni to strike the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Benoit Ritieni's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Henrich Slany was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. In the 64th minute, Alexander Testa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 71 minutes into the match, Slovakia's goal looked a bit too open when Benoit Ritieni came free, but Henrich Slany reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Slovakia's Metod Mlynar got his second yellow card of the match in the 72nd minute. The referee ordered Metod Mlynar off the ground. In the 73rd minute, Metod Mlynar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Henrich Slany showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ray Büeler in the 76th minute of the match. In the 79th minute Ray Büeler shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Henrich Slany saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Henrich Slany came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by FC Lugano's Benoit Ritieni. But to his dismay, Benoit Ritieni quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Garnier Nüesch hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Zigmund Maliar hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Slovakia defense, Benoit Ritieni kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Henrich Slany. The Slovakia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Henrich Slany should have stopped the shot. Ray Büeler struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Henrich Slany didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Lugano. The supporters of FC Lugano booed when Slovakia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ondrej Biskup didn't get a good kick on the ball. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. FC Lugano fully deserved thier win.
