The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 16th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 25th minute Wim Wilmes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dedé Alves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Netherlands's Arnout Reekers got control of the ball when Emil Ciuvică tried to sneak it across the goal line. 28 minutes had been played when some careless play by UFC Mahmudie's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. A well-hit corner resulted in Lars Meesters heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. 30 minutes into the match, UFC Mahmudie's goal looked a bit too open when Wim Wilmes came free, but Dedé Alves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. UFC Mahmudie's Gelu Dragomir shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 33rd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Arnout Reekers but with some difficulty. David Eikelkamp kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. In the 36th minute, Gijsbert ter Kruimer left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Netherlands fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Laurențiu Cinteză, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A nice corner shot did that Gelu Dragomir got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Arnout Reekers quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gelu Dragomir in the 45th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arnout Reekers saved Netherlands from getting behind. UFC Mahmudie were awarded a corner in the 46th minute after Netherlands's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gelu Dragomir took the corner. A well-hit corner resulted in Nichifor Arșanu heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lucian Covataru to make the kick off. When the match had gone on for 55 minutes, Lucian Covataru put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Arnout Reekers. When Gustaaf Groeneveldt came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Netherlands fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gustaaf Groeneveldt couldn't finish the play. After 64 minutes of play, Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dedé Alves was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of UFC Mahmudie booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bas Tuitert didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 77th minute, Bas Tuitert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dedé Alves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 85th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Netherlands's David Eikelkamp got a free kick in the 85th minute. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sorin Vârjean, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Emil Ciuvică came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the UFC Mahmudie fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emil Ciuvică couldn't finish the play.
