The audience thought a goal was coming when Napoleon Dytrych got free with Arnout Reekers in the 19th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 21st minute, Przemyslaw Pliszka made a precise shot to the right of Arnout Reekers. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Wim Wilmes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Wim Wilmes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hany Moamen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kaj Skytt in the 92nd minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Netherlands were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
