Siricio Liotta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manfred Fribäck having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zaccheo Andolina in the 8th minute of play forced Norrlands Athen's goalkeeper Manfred Fribäck to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Manfred Fribäck showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zaccheo Andolina in the 16th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Zaccheo Andolina in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Manfred Fribäck saved Norrlands Athen from getting behind. When Italy's Zaccheo Andolina in the 24th minute got a chance for a shot 24th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Norrlands Athen's goalie prevented a goal. In the 27th minute Zaccheo Andolina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manfred Fribäck saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Norrlands Athen's Frank Berglund got a free kick in the 29th minute. A hard and well directed shot from Sigfrido Auletta led 30 minutes into the game to a goal after the ball had bounced deceptively just in front of the goal. Norrlands Athen's Manfred Fribäck became a little unsure and couldn't grip the ball before it was over the goalline. Thus it was 1-1. In the 34th match minute, Norrlands Athen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Henrik Stor to maneuver through the defense. 35 minutes into the match, Norrlands Athen's goal looked a bit too open when Sigfrido Auletta came free, but Manfred Fribäck reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Norrlands Athen's Manfred Fribäck played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zaccheo Andolina in the 38th minute of play. Zaccheo Andolina recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 48th minute Erik Ljusberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flavio Vittori saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Zaccheo Andolina was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Italy's Eliseo Cutri got a free kick in the 51st minute. Norrlands Athen's Manfred Fribäck played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Siricio Liotta in the 55th minute of play. Manfred Fribäck took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zaccheo Andolina, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Zaccheo Andolina could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 60th minute of the match, but Manfred Fribäck made a huge save. Flavio Vittori showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Erik Ljusberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Zaccheo Andolina took the ball and in the 67 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Manfred Fribäck. Manfred Fribäck dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Norrlands Athen made a substitution. Tord Lundin replaced Qian Zhen Sheng. Norrlands Athen's Gilbert Hermansson was substituted for Nicolás Castillo. Norrlands Athen's Manfred Fribäck proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 74th minute of the match, managed to save Norrlands Athen from getting a goal against them. Flavio Vittori showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilbert Hermansson in the 76th minute of the match. Flavio Vittori made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilbert Hermansson in the 78th minute of play. Manfred Fribäck took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zaccheo Andolina, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Italy's Zaccheo Andolina got a good chance for a goal in the 88th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Italy's Sansone Vanella was substituted for Gianpaolo Mascari. Adriano Curto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jacinto da Silveira made in the 93rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Italy's Siricio Liotta. The supporters of Norrlands Athen booed when Italy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Siricio Liotta didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Italy defense, Gilbert Hermansson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Flavio Vittori. The Italy fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Flavio Vittori should have stopped the shot. Despite being the better team, Italy failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
