Lars Meesters ran back to his position shaking his head. Eric Soned showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lars Meesters, who was totally free with the ball in the 4th minute. 7 minutes into the game, Juninho Pernambucano recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Arnout Reekers. Juninho Pernambucano showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. With a little luck, Netherlands's Arnout Reekers got control of the ball when Juninho Pernambucano tried to sneak it across the goal line. Eric Soned made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 25th minute of play. Morgan Möllgren could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. Eric Soned showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 31st minute of the match. After 34 played minutes Étoile Sportive Du Sahel got a freekick which was hit by Moise Dordea. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 36th minute of play forced Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's goalkeeper Eric Soned to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eric Soned took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Étoile Sportive Du Sahel getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Juninho Pernambucano hit a great ball.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Juninho Pernambucano made a kick off. Eric Soned didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Wim Wilmes went, in the 51st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Gijsbert ter Kruimer struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Eric Soned didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. After a rather tough play, Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Valentin Elg got a free kick in the 56th minute. In the 57th minute Juninho Pernambucano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eric Soned made a fantastic save in the 59th minute, when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a good shot on target. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel made a substitution. Folke Vallman replaced Henning Ekström. 70 minutes had been played when some careless play by Netherlands's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Valentin Elg was slow to take the kick. During this time Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Valentin Elg got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Arnout Reekers quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Juninho Pernambucano in the 71st minute of the match. In the 77th minute, Jim Njurenius ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Arnout Reekers was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Netherlands's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Valentin Elg was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. After 95 minutes, Tomasz Jakubowski made it 4-1 with a short kick to the right side. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.
