An unexpectedly hard shot by Damazy Joks in the 22nd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Frank Mora to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 23rd minute Lech Pisarcik shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frank Mora saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 24 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Lech Pisarcik came free, but Frank Mora reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Artur Boruc took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leo Calvo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Frank Mora made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lech Pisarcik in the 27th minute of play. 31 minutes into the match, Poland's goalkeeper Artur Boruc had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jorge Luna. Poland's Artur Boruc played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorge Luna in the 35th minute of play. Jorge Luna could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Artur Boruc made a huge save. Feliks Wojton struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Frank Mora didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Poland. Thanks to some nice moves Jorge Luna could shoot a difficult shot in the 44th minute, which Artur Boruc however easily saved by the left post. If Pier Kopacz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When Costa Rica's Aurelio Badilla in the 52nd minute got a chance for a shot 52nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Poland's goalie prevented a goal. In the 58th minute, Lech Pisarcik ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Frank Mora was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Artur Boruc took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aurelio Badilla, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Poland's Marek Czech was substituted for Damazy Joks. Costa Rica made a substitution. Alfonso Mejias replaced Aurelio Badilla. Costa Rica's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Chunche Montero in the 71st minute. Marek Czech sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alain Duarte during the 73rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The Costa Rica supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Poland's performance. The match ended with a win for Poland.
