Edvīns van der Sar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wim Wilmes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 28th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Netherlands fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. 32 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Edvīns van der Sar was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Edvīns van der Sar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gijsbert ter Kruimer's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. 36 minutes into the match, FC Alytus United's goal looked a bit too open when Wim Wilmes came free, but Edvīns van der Sar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edvīns van der Sar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. In the 44th minute, Gijsbert ter Kruimer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 45 played minutes, FC Alytus United's Karl-Michael Bremming shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Arnout Reekers came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FC Alytus United reached it. In the 47th minute Kris Chamberlain shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gijsbert ter Kruimer to strike the kick off in the second half. FC Alytus United's Edvīns van der Sar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 51st minute of play. After 55 minutes of play, FC Alytus United's Daavid Šembera made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Arnout Reekers was left in no man's land by his defense there! With his leg Edvīns van der Sar managed to avoid a goal in the 61stth minute, when Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 65 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Jarūnas Kuliešius came free, but Arnout Reekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves Gustaaf Groeneveldt could shoot a difficult shot in the 67th minute, which Edvīns van der Sar however easily saved by the left post. In the 71st minute, Wim Wilmes reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Edvīns van der Sar. The goal made the score 2-3. 76 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Daavid Šembera came free, but Arnout Reekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Daavid Šembera scored 3-3 in the 78th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Arnout Reekers, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wim Wilmes got free with Edvīns van der Sar in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Netherlands were awarded a corner in the 91th minute after FC Alytus United's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer made a great header on Netherlands's corner, it was just that FC Alytus United's Edvīns van der Sar managed to reach the ball for a save. Netherlands were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
