The coaching staff of Belgium protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Laurens Vandamme had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 24th minute, one of Belgium:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Belgium. The goalkeeper, Casper Claes, was totally fooled by PINGO PINGO's Joga Bem, who 27 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Felipe Fernandes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Yves Dervaux hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. 1-2 came in the 39th minute when Siebe Michiels all by himself managed to get straight through the defense and place the ball into the net to the right of Dionisio Raphael. Belgium's Lenny Clocheret quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Casimiro Claris, made in the 45th minute of the game. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Filip Josefsson made the kick off in the second half. Dionisio Raphael made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Yves Dervaux in the 56th minute of play.
