Mike Zoetmulder took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Viriato Moura, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 5th match minute, Portugal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felipe Barreto to maneuver through the defense. Mike van Zeijl was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 8th minute. De Pelgrims's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Mike Zoetmulder took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Pimentel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 16 played minutes Portugal got a freekick which was hit by Bruno Bastos. Fu Peng Feng recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 19 minutes into the game, De Pelgrims's Perivaldo Eger nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Wilson Amorim made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. De Pelgrims's Mike Zoetmulder played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felipe Barreto in the 22nd minute of play. Felipe Barreto scored 1-1 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Mike Zoetmulder, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Perivaldo Eger got free with Wilson Amorim in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Fabricio Andrade had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 35 minutes into the match, Viriato Moura notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of De Pelgrims's Mike Zoetmulder. Mike Zoetmulder was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Wilson Amorim made an important save on a dangerous shot by Perivaldo Eger in the 40th minute. In the 41st minute Perivaldo Eger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of De Pelgrims booed when Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rodolfo Miranda didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fu Peng Feng struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Wilson Amorim didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for De Pelgrims. After 46 played minutes Portugal got a freekick which was hit by Graciano Coutinho.

Wilson Amorim showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Perivaldo Eger in the 53rd minute of the match. Wilson Amorim stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Perivaldo Eger's shot from short distance in the 57th minute. In the 63rd minute, Mike van Zeijl made a precise shot to the right of Wilson Amorim. Portugal's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. In the 69th minute the ball was on its way in behind Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind De Pelgrims's goalkeeper Mike Zoetmulder, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Perivaldo Eger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilson Amorim having to interfere. Wilson Amorim didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Perivaldo Eger went, in the 83rd minute, to the upper right corner, 4-2 was the resulting score. Graciano Coutinho's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Mike Zoetmulder firmly grabbed it by the left post. 88 minutes into the match, Perivaldo Eger notched a goal, 5-2, to the right of Portugal's Wilson Amorim. Wilson Amorim was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 92nd match minute, De Pelgrims was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Huub Gerrits to maneuver through the defense. 93 minutes into the match, De Pelgrims's goalkeeper Mike Zoetmulder had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Graciano Coutinho. 94 minutes had been played when some careless play by De Pelgrims's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Pimentel was slow to take the kick. During this time Portugal's players had a chance to rest. In the 96th minute, De Pelgrims's Theo Tuyp seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Theo Tuyp the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of De Pelgrims protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Theo Tuyp had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. When Daniel Pimentel came up free with the goalie in the 98th minute, the Portugal fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Pimentel couldn't finish the play. Portugal's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
