After some careless play in the Portugal defense, Yan Zhi Chuan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Wilson Amorim. The Portugal fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Wilson Amorim should have stopped the shot. Raimundo Tupper kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. Ilkka Markkula took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felipe Barreto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Portugal's Rodolfo Miranda got a free kick in the 11th minute. 13 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Raimundo Tupper. Viriato Moura scored 1-1 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ilkka Markkula, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Portugal's attentive Daniel Pimentel managed to snatch the ball when Gilberto Sandoval made a throw-in in the 26th minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felipe Barreto got free with Ilkka Markkula in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ilkka Markkula made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felipe Barreto in the 56th minute. Felipe Barreto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ilkka Markkula read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 60th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Club Deportes Santa Cruz had won after a very even match.
