A wasted opportunity for Club Deportes Santa Cruz. In the 5th minute Raimundo Tupper shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ilkka Markkula showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felipe Barreto, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. Ilkka Markkula showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felipe Barreto in the 14th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Caetano Moreira in the 15th minute of play forced Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goalkeeper Ilkka Markkula to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Ilkka Markkula played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Caetano Moreira in the 15th minute of play. Ilkka Markkula didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Felipe Barreto went, in the 16th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Ilkka Markkula showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Viriato Moura, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. When Raul Caetano fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Portugal's protests and gave Raul Caetano a yellow card for diving instead. Club Deportes Santa Cruz made a substitution. Marcus Edström replaced Raimundo Tupper. After 23 played minutes Portugal got a freekick which was hit by Raul Caetano. After a rather tough play, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Gilberto Sandoval got a free kick in the 25th minute. Felipe Barreto took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 26th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ilkka Markkula. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 28 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Podador Raheiro. 31 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Podador Raheiro came free, but Wilson Amorim reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 34 minutes into the match, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goal looked a bit too open when Viriato Moura came free, but Ilkka Markkula reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Ilkka Markkula played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Caetano Moreira in the 35th minute of play. Felipe Barreto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match had gone on for 39 minutes, Silvio Navia took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Wilson Amorim to make any attempt to save it. Wilson Amorim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Yan Zhi Chuan in the 43rd minute of play. In the 45th minute Marcus Edström shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.
Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Trayko Gradinarski was substituted for Podador Raheiro. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Marcus Edström made a kick off. Felipe Barreto let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 55th minute shot 2-3 at rihgt post. Wilson Amorim came out of the goal in the 63rd minute to try and stop a shot by Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Marcus Edström. But to his dismay, Marcus Edström quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-3. In the 66th minute Marcus Edström shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wilson Amorim showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcus Edström in the 75th minute of the match. Portugal's Wilson Amorim played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcus Edström in the 78th minute of play. Hüseyin Rahmi Toper hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. Portugal made a substitution. Felipinho Amorim replaced Felipe Barreto. In the 81st minute, Hüseyin Rahmi Toper hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The long shot by Daniel Pimentel in the 81st minute really tested Ilkka Markkula's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. After 83 minutes of play, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Yan Zhi Chuan made it 4-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Wilson Amorim was left in no man's land by his defense there! 87 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Yan Zhi Chuan came free, but Wilson Amorim reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 89th minute Yan Zhi Chuan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ilkka Markkula was out of position in the 92 minute of play, and Graciano Coutinho capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Graciano Coutinho really showed his touch with that goal: 4-4. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Club Deportes Santa Cruz fans cheered their team off the field, for while Portugal had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
