The audience thought a goal was coming when Podador Raheiro got free with Wilson Amorim in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 12th minute Yan Zhi Chuan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wilson Amorim took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Yan Zhi Chuan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Podador Raheiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Wilson Amorim made a huge save. 22 minutes had been played when some careless play by Club Deportes Santa Cruz's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Felipe Barreto was slow to take the kick. During this time Portugal's players had a chance to rest. Portugal's Wilson Amorim played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raimundo Tupper in the 24th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Viriato Moura in the 25th minute of play forced Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goalkeeper Ilkka Markkula to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Podador Raheiro. Ilkka Markkula breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Club Deportes Santa Cruz made a substitution. Trayko Gradinarski replaced Podador Raheiro. With a little luck, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Ilkka Markkula got control of the ball when Felipinho Amorim tried to sneak it across the goal line. Felipinho Amorim took the ball and in the 97 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ilkka Markkula. Ilkka Markkula dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. The Portugal players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Club Deportes Santa Cruz from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
