In the 38th minute, Martin Söderkvist hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 44 minutes into the game, Östen Olsson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Fabio Auer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ove Hake to make the kick off. Östen Olsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Fabio Auer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 88 minutes into the match, Austria's Sandro Galishoff sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bo-Erik Boklund narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Östen Olsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabio Auer having to interfere. Fabio Auer was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
