Alf Tempel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Major Barna, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. In the 5th minute Robin Dommröse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fodor Daniel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The attack was good, but when Major Barna in the 7th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Hungary's Fodor Daniel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Hagedorn in the 9th minute of play. 9 minutes into the game, Daniel Hagedorn lined in a short shot 1-0 behind a frustrated Fodor Daniel. Alf Tempel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antal Valentin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hungary's defense didn't have a chance, in the 15th minute, when Daniel Hagedorn scored to the left of an out of position Fodor Daniel, making the score, 2-0. Major Barna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alf Tempel having to interfere. Fodor Daniel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Robin Dommröse in the 24th minute. With 27 minutes on the clock, Lars Reicher commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 27th minute, one of Rapid Wien:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Rapid Wien. Alf Tempel had in the 30thth minute some difficulties stopping Antal Valentin's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 33 minutes into the match, Rapid Wien's goal looked a bit too open when Antal Valentin came free, but Alf Tempel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 34th minute Antal Valentin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alf Tempel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Rapid Wien defense, Antal Valentin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alf Tempel. The Rapid Wien fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alf Tempel should have stopped the shot. Robin Dommröse could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Fodor Daniel made a huge save. Alf Tempel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antal Valentin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Antal Valentin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Alf Tempel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Antal Valentin made a kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Robin Dommröse came free, but Fodor Daniel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Takacs Tibor's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Alf Tempel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. Robin Dommröse received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Fodor Daniel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 74th minute Werner Frach shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fodor Daniel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 75th minute of the match Rapid Wien got a corner. Hungary's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Mirco Kähler ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Rapid Wien's Mirco Kähler to fire away a dangerous shot which Fodor Daniel despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robin Dommröse in the 80th minute of play forced Hungary's goalkeeper Fodor Daniel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Antal Valentin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Alf Tempel made a huge save. Alf Tempel made a fantastic save in the 85th minute, when Takacs Tibor sent off a good shot on target. If Antal Valentin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Major Barna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alf Tempel having to interfere. In the 93rd minute of the match Hungary got a corner. Rapid Wien's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Antal Valentin ran over to the corner to take the kick. When the final whistle sounded Hungary left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Rapid Wien.
