The audience thought a goal was coming when Nicolás Castillo got free with Wilson Amorim in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nicolás Castillo took the ball and in the 12 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Wilson Amorim. Wilson Amorim dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Manfred Fribäck showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felipe Barreto, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Nicolás Castillo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Erik Ljusberg's late challenge caught a Portugal's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Erik Ljusberg helped the player get up and apologised. In the 19th minute of the match Rodolfo Miranda sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Manfred Fribäck skillfully saved the ball. Manfred Fribäck showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Caetano Moreira in the 20th minute of the match. A well-hit corner resulted in Faustino Almeida heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Felipe Barreto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manfred Fribäck having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Larry Tatum in the 32nd minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Manfred Fribäck showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Viriato Moura in the 36th minute of the match. Portugal's Wilson Amorim proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save Portugal from getting a goal against them. After some careless play in the Norrlands Athen defense, Felipe Barreto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Manfred Fribäck. The Norrlands Athen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Manfred Fribäck should have stopped the shot. After 47 played minutes Norrlands Athen got a freekick which was hit by Jacinto da Silveira. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Erik Ljusberg was the one to do the kick off. Manfred Fribäck showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caetano Moreira, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Wilson Amorim took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Qian Zhen Sheng, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Norrlands Athen's Manfred Fribäck proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 61st minute of the match, managed to save Norrlands Athen from getting a goal against them. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Qian Zhen Sheng during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
