Nilson Veloso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kees Mooiweer hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. 7 minutes into the game, Netherlands's Wim Wilmes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nilson Veloso made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Nilson Veloso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. Nilson Veloso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David Eikelkamp in the 13th minute of the match. Nilson Veloso came out of the goal in the 14th minute to try and stop a shot by Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer. But to his dismay, Gijsbert ter Kruimer quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. A sloppy throw-in by Gust Ennemans in the 17th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Castanheiro SC's Clemente Cardozo. 19 minutes into the match, Castanheiro SC's goal looked a bit too open when Gijsbert ter Kruimer came free, but Nilson Veloso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer succeeded in the game's 21st minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-3. 23 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Nilson Veloso was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Gustaaf Groeneveldt took the ball and in the 27 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nilson Veloso. Nilson Veloso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-5. In the 32nd minute, David Eikelkamp ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nilson Veloso was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-6. Gustaaf Groeneveldt took the ball and in the 38 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nilson Veloso. Nilson Veloso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-8. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 43rd minute of play forced Castanheiro SC's goalkeeper Nilson Veloso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Castanheiro SC getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Luisinho Seco hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 48th minute of play forced Castanheiro SC's goalkeeper Nilson Veloso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-8 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Benedito Mineiro kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Nilson Veloso in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 54 minutes, Gustaaf Groeneveldt took a quick shot and it went in 0-9 without a chance for Nilson Veloso to make any attempt to save it. After 58 played minutes Castanheiro SC got a freekick which was hit by Edinho Pirani. Nilson Veloso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 59th minute of play. In the 62nd minute Wim Wilmes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nilson Veloso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 64th minute of play forced Castanheiro SC's goalkeeper Nilson Veloso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 67th minute, Gijsbert ter Kruimer made a precise shot to the right of Nilson Veloso. Castanheiro SC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-10. With an all-out effort, Netherlands's Nilson Veloso threw himself towards the right post 70 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 71st minute, Wim Wilmes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Netherlands fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-11. 74 minutes into the match, Gijsbert ter Kruimer notched a goal, 0-12, to the right of Castanheiro SC's Nilson Veloso. Nilson Veloso was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 78th minute, Wim Wilmes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Netherlands fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-13. Nilson Veloso made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Castanheiro SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edinho Pirani didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wim Wilmes scored 0-15 in the 90th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nilson Veloso, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Nilson Veloso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 94th minute.
