Through an outstanding action, after 4 minutes, Casper Claes successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Casper Claes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hristo Stoichkov in the 6th minute. Casper Claes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jonny Kleen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 9 minutes into the match, Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tzvetoslav Desov narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Edward Vanderstraeten might have been able to make a better finish in the 11th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tzvetoslav Desov. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edward Vanderstraeten ran back to his position shaking his head. Tzvetoslav Desov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edward Vanderstraeten in the 14th minute of play. In the 16th minute Edward Vanderstraeten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tzvetoslav Desov saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Belgium's Casper Claes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vitko Kozlov in the 22nd minute of play. In the 27th match minute, Belgium was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sander Dermaut to maneuver through the defense. In the 30th minute, Edward Vanderstraeten made a precise shot to the right of Tzvetoslav Desov. SvE United's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vitko Kozlov to make the kick off. Tzvetoslav Desov showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edward Vanderstraeten, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. After a rather tough play, Belgium's Lenny Clocheret got a free kick in the 90th minute. During the 93rd minute of the match David Alaba completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave David Alaba a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of Belgium booed when SvE United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Alaba didn't get a good kick on the ball.
