Naldo Roig took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 23 minutes of play, Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Naldo Roig was left in no man's land by his defense there! When the match clock showed 27 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sped through Picanya FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Naldo Roig. 33 minutes into the match, Picanya FC's goal looked a bit too open when Wim Wilmes came free, but Naldo Roig reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Picanya FC booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bas Tuitert didn't get a good kick on the ball. Naldo Roig showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. In the 45th minute, Hori Aranzubia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gregory Bermejo in the 47th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Henric Villaquiran to strike the kick off in the second half. Netherlands's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Netherlands's Wim Wilmes slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Naldo Roig. That made the score 1-4 after 82 minutes of play. After having played for 88 minutes, David Eikelkamp managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal.
