Gustaaf Groeneveldt recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 3rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 7th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mikolaj Jerzyk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 10th minute of play forced Newcastle United's goalkeeper Mikolaj Jerzyk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 10 minutes into the match, Wim Wilmes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Mikolaj Jerzyk. Newcastle United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Wim Wilmes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Mikolaj Jerzyk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wim Wilmes in the 14th minute of play. Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Newcastle United's Tadeusz Pstrongowski got a free kick in the 22nd minute. 23 minutes into the match, Newcastle United's goal looked a bit too open when Gijsbert ter Kruimer came free, but Mikolaj Jerzyk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 26 played minutes Newcastle United got a freekick which was hit by Olgierd Wojtowicz. After some careless play in the Newcastle United defense, Gustaaf Groeneveldt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mikolaj Jerzyk. The Newcastle United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mikolaj Jerzyk should have stopped the shot. After 37 minutes of play, Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mikolaj Jerzyk was left in no man's land by his defense there! The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gijsbert ter Kruimer to strike the kick off in the second half. Gustaaf Groeneveldt scored 0-6 in the 55th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Mikolaj Jerzyk, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Newcastle United's zone, Gustaaf Groeneveldt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mikolaj Jerzyk came out of the goal and Gustaaf Groeneveldt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 59 minutes into the game, Gijsbert ter Kruimer cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-7. Mikolaj Jerzyk was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adam Pacholewski in the 62nd minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Newcastle United's Pankracy Malicki in the 63rd minute got a chance for a shot 63rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Netherlands's goalie prevented a goal. 67 minutes into the match, Newcastle United's goal looked a bit too open when Lars Meesters came free, but Mikolaj Jerzyk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gustaaf Groeneveldt might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mikolaj Jerzyk. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gustaaf Groeneveldt ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 71st minute of the match, Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Mikolaj Jerzyk saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Gustaaf Groeneveldt's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Mikolaj Jerzyk firmly grabbed it by the left post. Gustaaf Groeneveldt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Mikolaj Jerzyk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 79 minutes into the match, Newcastle United's goalkeeper Mikolaj Jerzyk had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Thomas Vollmar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 86thth minute of the game Adam Pacholewski who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Netherlands's Arnout Reekers was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pankracy Malicki in the 88th minute of play. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thomas Vollmar in the 90th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Gijsbert ter Kruimer managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Gijsbert ter Kruimer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mikolaj Jerzyk breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 94 played minutes Newcastle United got a freekick which was hit by Zé Paulo Zonta. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 95th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Mikolaj Jerzyk. Newcastle United's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The Netherlands supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Netherlands would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
