With a little luck, Netherlands's Arnout Reekers got control of the ball when Brock Friend tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 11th minute of play forced Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Arthur Bufi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arthur Bufi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wim Wilmes in the 11th minute of play. Netherlands's defense didn't have a chance, in the 13th minute, when Brock Friend scored to the left of an out of position Arnout Reekers, making the score, 1-0. Gijsbert ter Kruimer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Arthur Bufi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gong Fan hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 24th minute of play forced Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Arthur Bufi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnout Reekers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Brock Friend in the 25th minute. Brock Friend's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Arnout Reekers read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. Gustaaf Groeneveldt struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Arthur Bufi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. The supporters of Cruzeiro Esporte Clube booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gijsbert ter Kruimer didn't get a good kick on the ball. Enrique de Mendonça hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

In the 62nd minute of the match, Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Arthur Bufi saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 63rd minute, Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Arthur Bufi. Arthur Bufi yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. After 66 played minutes Cruzeiro Esporte Clube got a freekick which was hit by Duarte Félix. Gijsbert ter Kruimer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Arthur Bufi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Wanderson Bezerra got a free kick in the 68th minute. In the 70th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arthur Bufi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brock Friend in the 72nd minute of play. Gustaaf Groeneveldt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arthur Bufi having to interfere. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Duarte Félix, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Arthur Bufi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wim Wilmes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Cruzeiro Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Enrique de Mendonça hit a great ball. A collision led to Netherlands getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Gustaaf Groeneveldt hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's zone, Gijsbert ter Kruimer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arthur Bufi came out of the goal and Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gijsbert ter Kruimer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arthur Bufi having to interfere. Despite being the better team, Netherlands failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
