In the 15th minute, Claes Fender ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Flavio Vittori was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Italy's attentive Siricio Liotta managed to snatch the ball when Stig-Arne Alegren made a throw-in in the 17th minute of the game. 20 minutes into the match, Italy's Zaccheo Andolina sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jack Glanselius narrowly saved just below the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Claes Fender to make the kick off. In the 54th minute Zaccheo Andolina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jack Glanselius saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 62 minutes, Jack Glanselius successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Sigfrido Auletta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Jack Glanselius tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
