With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alessio Zoccali in the 9th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Wilson Amorim saved Portugal from getting behind. 13 minutes into the match, Alessio Zoccali had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Wilson Amorim. Portugal's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alessio Zoccali was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. After 17 played minutes A.S. Udinese got a freekick which was hit by Olivér Bierhoff. Wilson Amorim was a little too slow when Alessio Zoccali got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 21st minute. The score was now 2-0. Alvaro Rotili showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felipe Barreto, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. After some careless play in the A.S. Udinese defense, Felipe Barreto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alvaro Rotili. The A.S. Udinese fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alvaro Rotili should have stopped the shot. In the 26th minute Felipe Barreto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alvaro Rotili saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alberigo Di Franco kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. 30 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Alessio Zoccali came free, but Wilson Amorim reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alvaro Rotili didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Viriato Moura went, in the 32nd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. In the 43rd minute, Alessio Zoccali got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 45th minute Felipe Barreto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alvaro Rotili saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

After taking down the ball on Portugal's corner Faustino Almeida fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Alvaro Rotili quite easily take care of the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Felipe Barreto kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Alvaro Rotili. That made the score 3-3 in the 70 minute of play. Portugal's Bartolomeu Dias was substituted for Viriato Moura. Portugal made a substitution. Felipinho Amorim replaced Felipe Barreto. Alvaro Rotili took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bartolomeu Dias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 74 minutes of play, Portugal's Bartolomeu Dias made it 3-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Alvaro Rotili was left in no man's land by his defense there! A.S. Udinese's Alexander Bottone got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Pimentel in the 84th minute of play forced A.S. Udinese's goalkeeper Alvaro Rotili to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alessio Zoccali in the 85th minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A.S. Udinese's Alexander Bottone got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Portugal booed when A.S. Udinese was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alberigo Di Franco didn't get a good kick on the ball.
