Vercelli FC's Tommi Lundell started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tommi Lundell got free with Fabio Auer in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Sandro Galishoff had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 14 minutes into the game, Fedele Di Lorenzo recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Fabio Auer. Fedele Di Lorenzo showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Tommi Lundell's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 22ndth minute, Fabio Auer skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Austria's Marc Kronecker managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Donato De Bonis in the 32 minute of the game. In the 34th minute, Vercelli FC's Tommi Lundell ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Fabio Auer. Fabio Auer yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. Fabio Auer was out of position in the 37 minute of play, and Fedele Di Lorenzo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Fedele Di Lorenzo really showed his touch with that goal: 3-0. After a defensive mix-up in Austria's zone, Enzo Azzolina stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabio Auer came out of the goal and Enzo Azzolina tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Vercelli FC booed when Austria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabio Schneider didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 44th minute Tommi Lundell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabio Auer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tommi Lundell in the 47th minute of play forced Austria's goalkeeper Fabio Auer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sandro Galishoff to make the kick off. 54 minutes had been played when some careless play by Austria's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Enzo Azzolina was slow to take the kick. During this time Vercelli FC's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Vercelli FC's Enzo Azzolina to fire away a dangerous shot which Fabio Auer despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Fabio Schneider sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Christian Wallner fell near the penalty area in the 57th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. After 71 played minutes Vercelli FC got a freekick which was hit by Emanuele Strano. Fabio Auer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tommi Lundell in the 75th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Fedele Di Lorenzo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vercelli FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Fedele Di Lorenzo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabio Auer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 80th minute, Enzo Azzolina left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Vercelli FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-0. After a defensive mix-up in Austria's zone, Alfonso Mazzetti stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabio Auer came out of the goal and Alfonso Mazzetti tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rafael Riedl kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. It was beautiful to see Vercelli FC's Enzo Azzolina in action when he in the 87th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! An unexpectedly hard shot by Tommi Lundell in the 95th minute of play forced Austria's goalkeeper Fabio Auer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 96th minute Vercelli FC were awarded a corner. Enzo Azzolina went to the cornerflag to take it. Vercelli FC walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
