After some careless play in the FC Arsenal Varna defense, Gijsbert ter Kruimer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Zhecho Tomev. The FC Arsenal Varna fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Zhecho Tomev should have stopped the shot. Zhecho Tomev showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. After a rather tough play, FC Arsenal Varna's Metodi Shapkarev got a free kick in the 13th minute. Gustaaf Groeneveldt might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Zhecho Tomev. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gustaaf Groeneveldt ran back to his position shaking his head. After 15 played minutes FC Arsenal Varna got a freekick which was hit by Lyuben Vlaykovski. After a defensive mix-up in Netherlands's zone, Peep Jüriöö stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnout Reekers came out of the goal and Peep Jüriöö tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. FC Arsenal Varna's attentive Adalbert Mindizov managed to snatch the ball when Gust Ennemans made a throw-in in the 22nd minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 24th minute of play forced FC Arsenal Varna's goalkeeper Zhecho Tomev to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Netherlands's zone, Rosen Penchovski stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnout Reekers came out of the goal and Rosen Penchovski tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gustaaf Groeneveldt struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Zhecho Tomev didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. In the 35th minute Gustaaf Groeneveldt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zhecho Tomev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Zhecho Tomev didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lyuben Vlaykovski in the 38th minute of play. FC Arsenal Varna's Zhecho Tomev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 39th minute of play. Netherlands were awarded a corner in the 41th minute after FC Arsenal Varna's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the corner. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 44th minute of play forced FC Arsenal Varna's goalkeeper Zhecho Tomev to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The FC Arsenal Varna players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Netherlands were winning 0-2.

Gustaaf Groeneveldt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zhecho Tomev having to interfere. Wim Wilmess short, quick shot in the 60thth minute got Zhecho Tomev to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 64 minutes FC Arsenal Varna's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gijsbert ter Kruimer who took care of the corner kick. Netherlands's Egbert Nijveldt was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Zhecho Tomev in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Peep Jüriöö sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rosen Penchovski, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Zhecho Tomev showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 78th minute of the match. In the 79th minute Netherlands were awarded a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Netherlands's corner Lars Meesters fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Zhecho Tomev quite easily take care of the ball. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 83rd minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Zhecho Tomev was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for FC Arsenal Varna through an amazing save. 85 minutes into the match, FC Arsenal Varna's goal looked a bit too open when Gustaaf Groeneveldt came free, but Zhecho Tomev reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Netherlands players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
