The crowd rose to their feet as Alejo Eleazar kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Arnout Reekers. That made the score 1-1 in the 12 minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 15th minute of play forced Joga Bonito's goalkeeper Artur Boruc to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alejo Eleazar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 21 minutes had been played when some careless play by Joga Bonito's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. At last the ball reached Egbert Nijveldt at the corner, ending with a kick to difficult to stop for the goalkeeper of Joga Bonito. 1-2. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alejo Eleazar in the 37th minute of play. In the 40th minute, Alejo Eleazar fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Artur Boruc showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 42nd minute of the match. Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer suffered a concussion after 44 minutes and had to leave the field. Netherlands's Bart Zomerhuis was substituted for Gijsbert ter Kruimer. A collision led to Joga Bonito getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Tolek Turek hit a great ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luo Wei Xi to make the kick off. Bart Zomerhuis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Artur Boruc having to interfere. Artur Boruc didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Bart Zomerhuis went, in the 56th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. Joga Bonito's Andy Symons suffered a sore thigh after 62 minutes and couldn't finish the game. After 62 minutes, Wim Wilmes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Netherlands and the Joga Bonito players grew even worse after the yellow card. Wim Wilmes hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luo Wei Xi in the 66th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 68th minute of play forced Joga Bonito's goalkeeper Artur Boruc to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Joga Bonito getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Tolek Turek hit a great ball. The Netherlands fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-4. Joga Bonito's Artur Boruc proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 78th minute of the match, managed to save Joga Bonito from getting a goal against them. Wim Wilmes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a rather tough play, Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a free kick in the 89th minute. In the 90th minute, Kees Mooiweer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Netherlands's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
