Wim Wilmes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Basso having to interfere. A collision led to Netherlands getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Wim Wilmes hit a great ball. With his leg Arnout Reekers managed to avoid a goal in the 45thth minute, when The Shadows's Niklas Lundqvist fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The supporters of Netherlands booed when The Shadows was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Herbert Holmgren didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Marcos Basso in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Arnout Reekers stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gencer Hisarcık's shot from short distance in the 61st minute. In the 66th minute Wim Wilmes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Basso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Shadows made a substitution. Robin Cane replaced Paulo Paublo. The corner ended in Ni Zhen Ying almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Netherlands's Arnout Reekers did a great save. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind The Shadows's goalkeeper Marcos Basso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a little luck, The Shadows's Marcos Basso got control of the ball when Gustaaf Groeneveldt tried to sneak it across the goal line. Marcos Basso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 79th minute of play. The Shadows made a substitution. Fabian Tingberg replaced Li Fei Xu. In the 87th minute of the match, Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a very nice opportunity to score, but Marcos Basso was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 94th minute, Wim Wilmes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
