The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Talcampeón FC's goal looked a bit too open when Rubén Martínez came free, but Edgardo Rondanelli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 11th minute Rubén Martínez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edgardo Rondanelli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th minute, Rubén Martínez ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Edgardo Rondanelli was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. 18 minutes into the game, Colo-Colo's Rubén Martínez nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Colo-Colo's Eladio Escalona proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 39th minute of the match, managed to save Colo-Colo from getting a goal against them. Rubén Martínez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Talcampeón FC's Edgardo Rondanelli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rubén Martínez in the 45th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rubén Martínez stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pablo Solari got free with Edgardo Rondanelli in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Edgardo Rondanelli showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rubén Martínez, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Colo-Colo's Rubén Martínez got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Talcampeón FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 96th minute, when Rubén Martínez scored to the left of an out of position Edgardo Rondanelli, making the score, 1-6. When the final whistle went the supporters of Colo-Colo were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Talcampeón FC side.
