Eladio Escalona showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Grzegorz Bierfass in the 14th minute of the match. José Julio Almeida fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zhuo Xuan Yu having to interfere. Inter de Chillán's Zhuo Xuan Yu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save Inter de Chillán from getting a goal against them. Eladio Escalona showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Grzegorz Bierfass in the 24th minute of the match. 28 minutes into the game, Inter de Chillán's Samuel Abel nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Eladio Escalona made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. After some careless play in the Colo-Colo defense, Grzegorz Bierfass kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eladio Escalona. The Colo-Colo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eladio Escalona should have stopped the shot. Zhuo Xuan Yu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rubén Martínez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 39th minute of the match Colo-Colo got a corner. Inter de Chillán's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Honorio Droguett ran over to the corner to take the kick. Marco-Antonio Etcheverry made a great header on Colo-Colo's corner, it was just that Inter de Chillán's Zhuo Xuan Yu managed to reach the ball for a save. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Rubén Martínez made the kick off in the second half. After 54 minutes Inter de Chillán's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Honorio Droguett who took care of the corner kick. Honorio Droguett made a great header on Colo-Colo's corner, it was just that Inter de Chillán's Zhuo Xuan Yu managed to reach the ball for a save. A collision led to Inter de Chillán getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Florencio Jax hit a great ball. 58 minutes into the match, Grzegorz Bierfass had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Eladio Escalona. Colo-Colo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Grzegorz Bierfass was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-4. Grzegorz Bierfass's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eladio Escalona read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 61st minute of play. 61 minutes into the game, Grzegorz Bierfass cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-5. Eladio Escalona was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 63 minutes into the match, Inter de Chillán's goal looked a bit too open when Reinaldo Christie came free, but Zhuo Xuan Yu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Zhuo Xuan Yu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rubén Martínez in the 71st minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Honorio Droguett in the 72nd minute of play forced Inter de Chillán's goalkeeper Zhuo Xuan Yu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zhuo Xuan Yu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Honorio Droguett in the 81st minute of play. In the 84th minute Rubén Martínez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zhuo Xuan Yu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Grzegorz Bierfass in the 89th minute of play forced Colo-Colo's goalkeeper Eladio Escalona to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Grzegorz Bierfass fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eladio Escalona having to interfere. Colo-Colo's Emerson Pereira was substituted for José Julio Almeida. The Inter de Chillán supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Inter de Chillán would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
