After 3 played minutes Portugal got a freekick which was hit by Caetano Moreira. Wilson Amorim made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hristo Stoichkov in the 5th minute. In the 6th minute, Hristo Stoichkov reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Wilson Amorim. The goal made the score 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felipe Barreto in the 12th minute of play forced Athletico Picapedrense's goalkeeper Jesus Sayveon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hristo Stoichkov blasted a shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Wilson Amorim having to make a save. Felipe Barreto struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Jesus Sayveon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Portugal. Jesus Sayveon didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Felipe Barreto went, in the 26th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. If Reno Cartagena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jesus Sayveon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Pimentel in the 32nd minute of play. Portugal were awarded a corner in the 33th minute after Athletico Picapedrense's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Felipe Barreto took the corner. After taking down the ball on Portugal's corner Rodolfo Miranda fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jesus Sayveon quite easily take care of the ball. A nice corner shot did that Fabricio Andrade got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Jesus Sayveon quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After 36 minutes, Fabricio Andrade made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. Athletico Picapedrense's Jesus Sayveon tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Thanks to some nice moves Hristo Stoichkov could shoot a difficult shot in the 41st minute, which Wilson Amorim however easily saved by the left post. In the 43rd minute, Cristo Uria hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Hristo Stoichkov stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Hristo Stoichkov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wilson Amorim took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hristo Stoichkov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Athletico Picapedrense's Eren Berbatov was substituted for Lorenzo Jubera. Wilson Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eloi Fontanella, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Wilson Amorim came out of the goal in the 63rd minute to try and stop a shot by Athletico Picapedrense's Hristo Stoichkov. But to his dismay, Hristo Stoichkov quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. After a rather tough play, Portugal's Daniel Pimentel got a free kick in the 67th minute. Athletico Picapedrense made a substitution. Zenon Klewinski replaced Reno Cartagena. If Cristo Uria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Bartolomeu Dias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jesus Sayveon read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. In the 74th minute, Eloi Fontanella ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Wilson Amorim was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2. The Athletico Picapedrense fans' excitement grew in the 80th match minute when Athletico Picapedrense's Eloi Fontanella looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 4-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Athletico Picapedrense's Claudio Zárate was substituted for Hristo Stoichkov. The supporters of Athletico Picapedrense booed when Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Faustino Almeida didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eloi Fontanella's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wilson Amorim read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. In the 96th minute, Portugal's Bartolomeu Dias dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 4-3. Athletico Picapedrense walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
