In the 75th minute Wim Wilmes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Comunardo Iannone saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 78 minutes into the match, Åke Åberg had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Arnout Reekers. Netherlands's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Åke Åberg was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Comunardo Iannone showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wim Wilmes in the 84th minute of the match. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gratien Étoile, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. Gijsbert ter Kruimer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Comunardo Iannone having to interfere. Netherlands's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
