An unexpectedly hard shot by Feliciano Frans in the 3rd minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 5 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Arnoud de Pelsmakere was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Arnoud de Pelsmakere showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 7th minute of the match. In the 8th minute Netherlands were awarded a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer went to the cornerflag to take it. It was a well-played corner which Lars Meesters managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 10th minute of play forced Club Universidad Nacional's goalkeeper Arnoud de Pelsmakere to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnout Reekers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gerardo Nesto in the 15th minute. In the 18thth minute of the game Gijsbert ter Kruimer who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Club Universidad Nacional's Arnoud de Pelsmakere was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 27 minutes into the match, Club Universidad Nacional's goal looked a bit too open when Gustaaf Groeneveldt came free, but Arnoud de Pelsmakere reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Feliciano Frans sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the ball and in the 32 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Arnoud de Pelsmakere. Arnoud de Pelsmakere dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Arnoud de Pelsmakere took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 40 minutes into the match, David Eikelkamp had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Arnoud de Pelsmakere. Club Universidad Nacional's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that David Eikelkamp was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. After the first half Netherlands were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

52 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Netherlands's Wim Wilmes fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. When the match had gone on for 58 minutes, Wim Wilmes took a quick shot and it went in 0-4 without a chance for Arnoud de Pelsmakere to make any attempt to save it. 63 minutes into the match, Club Universidad Nacional's goalkeeper Arnoud de Pelsmakere had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Wim Wilmes. Gijsbert ter Kruimer kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. Club Universidad Nacional's Arnoud de Pelsmakere played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wim Wilmes in the 70th minute of play. Arnoud de Pelsmakere showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. Eustaquio Mede received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Arnout Reekers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Club Universidad Nacional's Steffen Gimlinge was substituted for Feliciano Frans. Club Universidad Nacional's Angel Morales was substituted for Gerardo Nesto. Club Universidad Nacional's Arnoud de Pelsmakere proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save Club Universidad Nacional from getting a goal against them. In the 82nd minute, Netherlands's Wim Wilmes dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-5. Steffen Gimlinge might have been able to make a better finish in the 86th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Arnout Reekers. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Steffen Gimlinge ran back to his position shaking his head. If Steffen Gimlinge had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Steffen Gimlinge in the 92nd minute of play. Netherlands played a much better game than Club Universidad Nacional and deserved their victory. The Club Universidad Nacional players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
