If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 13 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Gust Ennemans. Gremio Viana's Moisés Nóbrega played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 16th minute of play. 23 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Moisés Nóbrega was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 27th minute, Domingos Lencastre got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Moisés Nóbrega showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 36th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Domingos Lencastre got free with Arnout Reekers in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A throw-in in the 46th minute of the game was made by Gust Ennemans with Gustaaf Groeneveldt as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. The supporters of Gremio Viana booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lars Meesters didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After 55 played minutes Gremio Viana got a freekick which was hit by 韩轩建. After a defensive mix-up in Gremio Viana's zone, Gijsbert ter Kruimer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Moisés Nóbrega came out of the goal and Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 58th minute, one of Netherlands:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Netherlands. Arnout Reekers had in the 59thth minute some difficulties stopping 苏景骋's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Wim Wilmess short, quick shot in the 62ndth minute got Moisés Nóbrega to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 65th minute, Gremio Viana's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after David Eikelkamp fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After 66 minutes, Adalberto Leite mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gremio Viana and the Netherlands players grew even worse after the yellow card. Gremio Viana made a substitution. 江飞正 replaced 苏景骋. A collision led to Gremio Viana getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Adalberto Leite hit a great ball. After 70 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Gremio Viana! Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Gustaaf Groeneveldt could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 78th minute of the match, but Moisés Nóbrega made a huge save. In the 86th minute, Domingos Lencastre ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Arnout Reekers was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Gremio Viana's Joaquim Paredes was substituted for Domingos Lencastre. 90 minutes into the match, Wim Wilmes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Moisés Nóbrega. Gremio Viana's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Wim Wilmes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Gremio Viana made a substitution. Severino Torcato replaced Joaquim Lustosa. Moisés Nóbrega showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Netherlands's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 97th minute.
