Peñarol's Don Pico shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Wilson Amorim came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in C.A. Peñarol reached it. In the 17th minute C.A. Peñarol were awarded a corner. Don Pico went to the cornerflag to take it. If Brian Åkerberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wilson Amorim was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Hernán Restat showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 21 minute of play. 24 minutes into the game, Portugal's Felipe Barreto nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alirio Ducoing made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Brian Åkerberg made the kick off in the second half. Wilson Amorim took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Berkan Berka, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Portugal getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Rodolfo Miranda hit a great ball. In the 53rd minute of the match Don Pico sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Wilson Amorim skillfully saved the ball. Wilson Amorim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valentino Basulto in the 54th minute of play. 54 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Brian Åkerberg came free, but Wilson Amorim reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alirio Ducoing was a little too slow when Felipe Barreto got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 56th minute. The score was now 1-2. Alirio Ducoing was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Felipe Barreto showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-3 in the 64 minute of play. Wilson Amorim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anselmo Velin in the 70th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Graciano Coutinho got free with Alirio Ducoing in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 76th minute, Anselmo Velin ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Wilson Amorim was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-3. In the 82nd minute of the game Fabricio Andrade made a throw-in which Graciano Coutinho played forward. Caetano Moreira hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. Anselmo Velin struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Wilson Amorim didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for C.A. Peñarol. Fabricio Andrade made in the 88th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by C.A. Peñarol's Berkan Berka. Fabricio Andrade got a throw-in 90 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Bartolomeu Dias. The audience thought a goal was coming when Graciano Coutinho got free with Alirio Ducoing in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wilson Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jimeno Infante, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. The Portugal supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Portugal would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
