The corner was taken by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 21st minute. Netherlands's Wim Wilmes was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Martin Tudor in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save Netherlands from getting a goal against them. Arnout Reekers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Radu Geangu in the 24th minute. 25 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

The wind increased when Augustin Petruț made the kick off in the second half. Wim Wilmes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Augustin Petruț's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arnout Reekers was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. When the match clock showed 57 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Paul Diculescu sped through Netherlands's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Arnout Reekers. In the 63rd minute, Wim Wilmes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 65 minutes, David Eikelkamp managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Netherlands's supporters crossed their fingers, but David Eikelkamp was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Martin Tudor showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. When the match had gone on for 74 minutes, Paul Diculescu put it in 2-3 from a short distance just to the right of Arnout Reekers. Martin Tudor took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Radu Geangu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Arnout Reekers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Netherlands walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
