Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Wolverhampton's Patrik Lingren started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 6th minute of play forced Wolverhampton's goalkeeper Folke Björkdal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Folke Björkdal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Eikelkamp, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. In the 12th minute Wim Wilmes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Folke Björkdal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 16 minutes of play, Netherlands's Wim Wilmes made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Folke Björkdal was left in no man's land by his defense there! Wim Wilmes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arnout Reekers stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sotiris Koupepes's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. Folke Björkdal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wim Wilmes in the 24th minute of play. David Eikelkamp charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed David Eikelkamp the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 29th match minute, Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by David Eikelkamp to maneuver through the defense. In the 29th minute Patrik Lingren shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 30 minutes into the game, Gijsbert ter Kruimer was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Netherlands's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Wolverhampton the free kick. After 30 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Gijsbert ter Kruimer. 40 minutes into the match, Bas Tuitert had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Folke Björkdal. Wolverhampton's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bas Tuitert was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. 45 minutes into the match, Wolverhampton's goal looked a bit too open when Wim Wilmes came free, but Folke Björkdal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 47 minutes into the game, Guillermo Granäng was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Wolverhampton's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Netherlands the free kick. After 47 played minutes Wolverhampton got a freekick which was hit by Guillermo Granäng. After the first half Netherlands were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gijsbert ter Kruimer to make the kick off. Folke Björkdal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. Folke Björkdal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Folke Björkdal was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Wim Wilmes showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-4 in the 54 minute of play. Wolverhampton made a substitution. Sven-Ove Askestät replaced Patrik Lingren. In the 57th match minute, Wolverhampton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guillermo Granäng to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Folke Björkdal in the 61st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 62nd minute, Bengt-Rune Mellbad hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Wim Wilmes took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Folke Björkdal. Folke Björkdal dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-6. In the 68th minute of the match, Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a very nice opportunity to score, but Folke Björkdal was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Folke Björkdal didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Lars Meesters went, in the 75th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-7 was the resulting score. Wolverhampton's Folke Björkdal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wim Wilmes in the 80th minute of play. Folke Björkdal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wim Wilmes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Folke Björkdal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 84th minute of the match. 85 minutes into the game, Netherlands's Wim Wilmes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Folke Björkdal made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-8. Folke Björkdal didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Wim Wilmes went, in the 91st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-9 was the resulting score. Gijsbert ter Kruimer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Netherlands played a much better game than Wolverhampton and deserved their victory. The Wolverhampton players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
