In the 19th match minute, Czech Republic was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Svatopluk Capek to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that Erik Jilek's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Zbyszko Sokol was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. Zbyszko Sokol showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alan Rezek in the 36th minute of the match. In the 38th minute, Denis Dostal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Zbyszko Sokol was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. When Alan Rezek came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Czech Republic fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alan Rezek couldn't finish the play. Denis Dostal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Wit Kisiel made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Bohumir Kohout suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Wit Kisiel during the 53rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Zbyszko Sokol stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Erik Jilek's shot from short distance in the 95th minute. After having played for 97 minutes, Erik Jilek managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Czech Republic's supporters crossed their fingers, but Erik Jilek was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Czech Republic's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
