The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Charlie Vercalsteren fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored INTER Sosnowiec's protests and gave Charlie Vercalsteren a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to INTER Sosnowiec getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Charlie Vercalsteren hit a great ball. Jurand Frankowski hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Olympique Gdynia's Tanek Ostrowski proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save Olympique Gdynia from getting a goal against them. Leszek Wielopolski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Czeslaw Domeracki in the 26th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tirso Isasaga in the 37th minute of play forced INTER Sosnowiec's goalkeeper Leszek Wielopolski to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
