Zula Kosiorek made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Viriato Moura in the 22nd minute of play. But to his dismay, Felipe Barreto quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Wilson Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Donald Voldfrom, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. After having played for 37 minutes, Fabricio Andrade managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Portugal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fabricio Andrade was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 42nd minute, Leszek Pawlik hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 43rd minute of the match Felipe Barreto sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Zula Kosiorek skillfully saved the ball. 46 minutes into the match, Szczakowianka's goal looked a bit too open when Felipe Barreto came free, but Zula Kosiorek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 47 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gitano Adán. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

With a little luck, Szczakowianka's Zula Kosiorek got control of the ball when Felipe Barreto tried to sneak it across the goal line.
