Vicenza's Ennio Prandini played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lanny Gilmore in the 22nd minute of play. Aaron Smallwood showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cesare Liberati, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. With a little luck, Vicenza's Ennio Prandini got control of the ball when Arturo Turner tried to sneak it across the goal line. But to his dismay, Terence Nicholas quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Cara in the 29th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lanny Gilmore in the 33rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ennio Prandini prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 34 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Bianco Pan came free, but Aaron Smallwood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lanny Gilmore in the 36th minute of play forced Vicenza's goalkeeper Ennio Prandini to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Santos FC's Lanny Gilmore got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Vicenza's Ennio Prandini proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 41st minute of the match, managed to save Vicenza from getting a goal against them. In the 43rd minute, Lanny Gilmore ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ennio Prandini was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. 47 minutes into the game, Arturo Turner cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Ennio Prandini was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Emiliano Talone was the one to do the kick off. Ennio Prandini showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lanny Gilmore, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Santos FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Dominic Albright in the 56th minute. Santos FC's Dominic Albright was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Ennio Prandini in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 61stth minute of the game Lanny Gilmore who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vicenza's Ennio Prandini was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ennio Prandini showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lanny Gilmore, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. After 66 minutes, Cesare Liberati mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vicenza and the Santos FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Cesare Liberati was shown his second yellow card after 82 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. A collision led to Vicenza getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Cesare Liberati hit a great ball. In the 88thth minute of the game Lanny Gilmore who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vicenza's Ennio Prandini was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ennio Prandini made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tyron Velasquez in the 89th minute of play. The supporters of Santos FC booed when Vicenza was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Antonio Bomba didn't get a good kick on the ball. 93 minutes into the match, Santos FC's Dominic Albright broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Ennio Prandini made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lanny Gilmore in the 96th minute of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the Vicenza players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Santos FC.
