Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Román Olmedo to make the kick off. In the 55th match minute, Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wim Wilmes to maneuver through the defense. Arnout Reekers was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Andres-Sebastian Kanchelskis in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Arnout Reekers prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Gustaaf Groeneveldt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Cãlin Damaschin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Netherlands's Gust Ennemans got a free kick in the 90th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Netherlands's zone, Andres-Sebastian Kanchelskis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnout Reekers came out of the goal and Andres-Sebastian Kanchelskis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Netherlands players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
