In the 17th minute Gustaaf Groeneveldt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aytek Samin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Martin Videl in the 18th minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Netherlands's Arnout Reekers got control of the ball when Aldo Fernanco tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 21 minutes, Gustaaf Groeneveldt made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. El Retorno de Palermo's Aytek Samin tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. A collision led to Netherlands getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Mathijn Doctor hit a great ball. Kees Mooiweer made in the 33rd minute of the game a quick throw-in and Gijsbert ter Kruimer immediately put the ball in play. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zygmunt Malik in the 40th minute of play. After 46 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by David Eikelkamp. In the 47th minute David Eikelkamp suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. 47 minutes into the game, Martin Videl was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. El Retorno de Palermo's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Netherlands the free kick. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gijsbert ter Kruimer to strike the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Aytek Samin in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 60 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Zygmunt Malik came free, but Arnout Reekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Octavio Chuan during the 62nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of El Retorno de Palermo booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sijmen Clous didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wim Wilmes's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 86thth minute, Aytek Samin skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 90th match minute, El Retorno de Palermo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Octavio Chuan to maneuver through the defense. Aytek Samin made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 95th minute. Netherlands were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
