An unexpectedly hard shot by Inácio Figueiredo in the 12th minute of play forced Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Arthur Bufi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 21st minute, Brock Friend reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jarbas Guedes. The goal made the score 1-0. Brock Friend blasted a shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jarbas Guedes having to make a save. Jarbas Guedes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Brock Friend in the 26th minute. 29 minutes into the match, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Inácio Figueiredo came free, but Arthur Bufi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. S S Palestra Italia's Inácio Figueiredo got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Arthur Bufi prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 40th minute Rony Tasso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arthur Bufi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Duarte Félix's late challenge caught a S S Palestra Italia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Duarte Félix helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Duarte Félix got a free kick in the 41st minute. The corner led to Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Hélder Lara getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 47th minute, Nestor Bernal hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zé Roberto Moura to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Olavo Quadros got a free kick in the 54th minute. Brock Friend might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jarbas Guedes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. The S S Palestra Italia players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
